Decoupage tray using Papericious

Fellow Crafters,

Its difficult to get back to something after a break, and if you get back, you may get engrossed much that you tend to do more.

An attempt to make a decoupage tray using the "Papericious paper - Steal the Time". It was with me for a long time and I must say I love the theme and color combo used in it.

Preparation of the wooden tray was the first thing at hand.

I have tried to use an antique / distressed look along with it . I gave a coat of off white(peach) acrylic paint . Then rubbed certain areas with candle wax. The next coat was chalk paint - teal color as it matched with the prints of the Papericious paper. I sanded the area where I had applied wax to reveal the peach color. Next I glued the paper using Modpodge. Seal the decoupage surface with a few layers of mod podge. Let it dry thoroughly .

Next were the edges of the tray. I wanted a cracked distressed look. I used Ranger Texture and mixed a bit of Deco art crackle paste . I applied the mixture through Damask stencil and waited for ti get dry naturally. Once dry I could see the cracks appear. Dry brushing using acrylic - red, brown and Golden randomly gave a very distressed look. Once I was happy with the result , I sanded the edges and the texture( white) revealed through the colors, thus making it look embossed.

Hope you are inspired by this and make one for yourself.

Mom & Baby - A decoupage attempt.

Fellow Crafters,

Happy New Year !

This has been my longest break since I started crafting way back in 2014. Had just 3 of my posts going live in 2017. Have been away from it owing to professional obligations which demands long days. Hoping that I would be able to balance it out this year.

Here I am back in the crafty world attempting one thing that I love the most - Decoupage.

The choice of substrate is a glass bottle from "Frozen Bottle" - I was more keen on the bottle than the content inside.

To start of with the bottle was washed and the labels removed. Applied two coats of gesso with sufficient drying time to prime my substrate. This priming is necessary since it helps out the paint to grip the surface of the otherwise smooth glass bottle.

Then came the choice of colours - I chose blue - Blue is the colour of nature. I applied blue acrylic paint on to the bottle. Applied a single coat of the paint since there were more layers of different paint to get on to it.

Used decoupage glue to paste the picture of the mom and child on to the bottle.

Then came the most interesting part - getting the image to life by adding more colors around. Carefully sponged multiple colours - brown, blue, yellow and white till I was satisfied with the outcome and the image merged in.

Finally the sealant - gave a double coat of Varnish to make sure that the colours don't get off and the final outcome is below.

Materials used.

  1. Pebeo Studio Acrylic Gesso
  2. Camel Artists' Acrylic color - Blue, Yellow, White, Brown
  3. Arfina Artists' Picture Varnish
